Class information

 

Snack money is £1 a week. This can be paid for the full half term £5 if you prefer.

PE day is on Monday- children can wear their PE kit to school.

Forest Schools is on Thursday- children need wellies for this.

Summer Term 2

Our topic this term is                               

A Bug's Life 

 

In this topic  the children will be exploring life cycles and habitats. We will be learning about where bugs live and what makes those places perfect for them to grow and be safe. We will be exploring a wide range of mini beasts and classifying them according to observable features. We will also be learning about what they will need to survive, creating specific habitats and basic food chains. 

We will also be going pond dipping at Cosmeston Lakes with the Rangers. We will be identifying the insects using decision trees and researching them using the internet. 

We will be looking at what makes a non fiction book and creating our own about a selection of minibeasts as well as carrying on with developing our story writing skills through looking at stories with a minibeast focus. 

We will be continuing to look at division using the 2x, 5x and 10x table in Numeracy. We will also be looking at measuring length, mass and capacity and telling the time.

Through the Expressive Arts we will be exploring texture by impressing objects and plants into clay as well as finding out which materials will give the best print. We will be creating our own printed mini beasts using printing tiles and rollers.  We will also be creating our own presentation and using stop animation to make a cartoon story on the computers. 

In PSE we will be looking at our bodies and how we grow and change.

Summer Term 1

 

This half term our topic is called 'Paint me a Picture'. Our AoLE for this topic is expressive arts. We will be exploring a variety of famous artists and the artwork they have created. We will be creating our own versions of their artwork and comparing our work. We will be using lots of exciting art equipment such as printing equipment, water colours, pastels, fabrics, and a variety of different collage fabrics. We hope to share lots of our lovely work with you through Seesaw.  Please see the attached document for an overview of this half term.

Spring term 1

 

Happy New Year all! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. This half term our topic is called 'Feel the Force'. Our AoLE for this topic is science and technology. Our focus will be learning how forces and energy provide a foundation for our universe. Your child will be exploring the effects forces have on themselves and objects. Your child will also learn the properties of light, sound, magnetism and electricity. Please see the attached document for an overview for this half term.

 Spring Term 2

This term we are finding out all about 'Our Place in the World' We will be focusing on our town of Caerphilly and why it is special to us. We will be going for walks in our locality to look at the places of importance and finding out about the events which have shaped Caerphilly as the place it is. We will be making maps and creating pictures in different mediums of the castle. Our focus in mathematics will be money and measuring length and height . In literacy we will be making leaflets about special places in the town. The children will hear folk tales and legends  of the local area.
