Class Information - Mrs Anderson/Mrs Whelan

Welcome to Class 8, Year 4.

In Year 4 we have two classes. The teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Whelan (Class 8) and Mr Seamons (Class 7).

Below is a list of key information.

PE days: On Mondays, we have outdoor PE and on Thursdays we have our indoor session. Pupils are to wear PE kits into school for these days.

Reading books: Your child will be provided with reading material in school or they may choose their own from home. They will be expected to read at home and will be instructed to bring their books in on a specific day each week. However, pupils can change their books when completed at any time.

Autumn Term

Castles and Kingdoms

In the Castles and Kingdoms project, children will come face to face with William of Normandy, the ruthless ruler of the Normans, and find out about his people and his plans to conquer England. Acting as history detectives, they’ll investigate the Bayeux Tapestry. They’ll use art materials and ICT to draw sections of the tapestry and create and decorate Norman helmets. After they’ve explored interactive maps of surviving Norman castles in Wales, they’ll create storyboards and timelines of the Norman invasion and make mini castles and fact files about Norman strongholds. Using computer software, they’ll create a cartoon version of the story of Ifor Bach, Lord of Senghenydd, and invent powerful mottos for Welsh princes from the 12th and 13th centuries. They’ll also write news reports about the spread of the Black Death and eyewitness reports detailing the Edwardian conquest of Wales. At the end of the project, they’ll plan for a lavish Norman feast and set out an itinerary for a visit to a Norman castle.
